Load calculations, otherwise known as heat loss and heat gain calculations are a very important first step in determining the correct capacities required to heat and cool the environment within the structure's envelope and to provide an Energy Efficient HVAC System. There are two types of load calculations, the Block Load which is used for an overall determination of the heating/cooling capacities required for the building envelope. The Room by Room load calculation is used in the design process for the air distribution system ensuring accurate delivery of  the required airflow to meet individual room requirements. For this reason the orientation of the building as well as construction material areas and insulation R -values, glazed areas values, infiltration and local Summer and Winter design conditions are of vital importance to Energy Conservation and operating costs. Calculations are performed ACCA approved Manual J, 8th edition computer software programs. This 'Right-size' process is essential in this era of high efficiency 'tight' spray foam insulated homes as is an accurately sized Energy Recovery Ventilation system to assist in removing VOC'S (Volatile Off-gassing Chemicals) and the circulation of fresh air.

Equipment Selection is based upon the capacities meeting the net btu/hr output from the load calculations and eliminates over-sizing or under-sizing of the equipment and is another necessary step toward ensuring an energy efficient installation. Accurate equipment selection required to meet the calculated heating and cooling loads is determined using ACCA approved Manual S.

Duct Sizing is the next natural step toward designing a quiet system with even airflow matching the mauufacturer's recommended airflow rates at given static pressures.and pressure drops at supply outlets. Ductwork must be installed sealed airtight and insulated with ductwrap to State and Local Building Code requirements and in adherence to ACCA approved Manual D recommendations.

CAD Design Layout of the Air Distribution System and locations of  registers, grilles and diffusers can have an impact on asthetics in a room and the possible omission of a suitable location for the equipment and avoidance of beams. Working with Architects at the design development stage to predetermine soffit and chase locations to eliminate project delays and costly alterations is our specialty.

Specifications and installation guidelines are necessary documentations to ensure the designed systems are installed as required by the equipment manufacturer and to State and Local Building Codes.

Competitive Bidding as in "apples for apples" using our bid package will ensure that the installation costs will not vary in the extreme and that a reputable contractor can be appointed.and his installation work monitored with the documentation provided.

Project Management is a natural extension to the services we can provide at your request.

Kitchen Exhaust -Makeup Air for Range Hoods
Range Hood manufacturers tout their impressive high performance Range Hoods models yet continuously fail to provide any supportive information regarding code requirements for Makeup Air for hoods exhausting air in excess of 400cfm. This should be tackled in advance to avoid unnecessary additional costs and a multitude of avoidable malfunctions. This is where we can be of assistance.
